When It Drains It Pours

Sometimes I just love seeing this.

All the offscouring from each night's dirty dishes getting washed "down the drain" night after night, only to live by the most perfect organic matter for the breeding of pests.

And they wonder why the kitchen has fruit flies.

Our night crawler Melvin sent me these beautiful shots.

The method for getting rid of the flies:

1) Dig out the drains by hand
2) Steam clean them hardcore
3) Treat with the right products
4) But most of all, educate the client / owner as to what's really going on in his restaurant.

All in a night's work.

Welcome Back Ratter

Yes, Ew York City is back.  Sorry for the absence.  Lots going on.  I'll try to be there for you from now on.

Here's an example of the need to look closer, harder, deeper.

The big black thing at the bottom of the picture is a pipe that blocked the vantage point which would have let someone see this hole.

The copper tubes could have tipped it off.

But just taking the time to go over the top and look down revealed this nice sized mouse hole that we were able to take care of .

Rodent problem eliminated and the restaurant got their "A" a few days later.

Now that's a happy ending.

Don't call it a comeback.

Behind Your Behind

Just a quick reminder that every time you sit on a toilet you are probably in close proximity to some kind of vermin or pest that is within the hollow wall voids or piping.

Now you can relax.

Love Is In the Air

Today's title was suggested by our service manager Nick.

Every now and then you get to get close to the action, and this was a special one.

Some lovely houseflies were keeping busy, and didn't care how close I got to them.

This is a good reminder that pests are constantly reproducing.  There will always be more.  Expect it.

Always nice to see these little reminders around town.  We're so used to rodents' presence.  I wonder if it seems strange to tourists who are not used to rats and mice like we are.

An American Rat in Paris

French bistro on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Norway rat in the basement prep kitchen, drinking slimy water.

This guy was so bold, he just kept drinking the whole time I was photographing him.

It looked like his left eye was a little messed up.

We're always bailing out the French.

What's in Your Fridge Motor?

I haven't been clubbing in a long time, since like Thursday, but I know very well how crazy these clubs can get.

The picture above says it all: chicken wing, napkins, broken glass, and tube of Lubriderm all inside a fridge motor.

And of course management was wondering why they had cockroaches and flies.

This just goes to show that you never know what's going on in your location until you open things up, get down on your knees, and look around.

Isn't that what clubbing is all about?
